‘Goodbye’ world’s best team
From the moment I can walk I’m a member of a sports club. Athletics, swimming and from when I was 11 I also started to play football. In the end, football is the only sport I’ve always been practicing. In my last season, I experienced a serious injury for the first time in my career. In the last championship contest of VV Maarssen 3 I only played the last 30 minutes and the first half of season 2016-2017 was more about recovery. In my opinion, this resulted immediately in the season in which I had the least fun (personally). The feeling prevails that you have not been able to give everything and cannot play a game painlessly. According to the physiotherapist recovery was possible, but there is also a form of wear. I do not feel old yet, but such messages put your feelings in a certain perspective.
But the injury may be a small footnote, because in the end I really enjoyed all those hours on the football field. In all these years we have become little champion, but I do remember all the times we stood with the cup in our hands. During our visit to DOS Utrecht (now DHSC fusion club) we became convincing champion in the first year, after finishing in the middle during a lot of seasons, we became with a fresh team a convincing champion again in the 2015-2016 season.
However the most beautiful of football is the team feeling. Everything you do together, you fight for each other. For victory or for something which is more beautiful than winning. The fun of the game. You share love and suffering together. Small children and ‘slain’ are taken care of, loves and broken relationships are analyzed during a glass of beer. Hair transplants are assessed by experts, solving injuries by the best physiotherapies. Twice a week taking a shower together creates a bloodstream that cannot be broken quickly. Perhaps, therefore, my goodbye does not feel like a farewell, but as a temporary interruption. For the first time, I wrote out as a playing member of a football club, which gives a strange feeling. Will I miss the football, for sure. Even though I hope to kick a ball or join the Kyrgyzstan’s football team during the trip. Football is a world sport, everywhere they play the game.
But more than football I will miss the team. The Wednesday evening trainings on a field in the back, laugh for a failed pass or a shot that goes way too high. The Saturdays on artificial grass fields, where the same player is too late or the balls are forgotten. Or the bowls of snacks and cans of beer, or a proud father who shows his twins. I’m going to miss it, but I’ll take it on my mind during our journey as well. Every Saturday I will wonder what we’ve done, will we win the cup this year, and who was too late this time ?!
Season 2018 – 2019 I would like to join this team with sons of god, if I will of course be admitted to the selection by the leaders! You go guys, win and enjoy!
